Metadata & SEO

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results. Typically, the earlier a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine.

In accordance with industry standards, we use several simple SEO techniques to help improve ranking in search engines. In the CMS, fields are provided for keywords and descriptions (also known as metadata). Metadata helps determine what keyword searches should yeild your website. Using techniques like Keyword Relevancy, you can improve your site's position in the list yeilded by a keyword search. Higher ranking means more traffic, which translates to more sales and to a more prominent web presence.

  • The Page Title should be relevant to the content of the page and if you can work in a keyword, it certainly couldn't hurt.
  • In the field for keywords we reccommend that you include up to 10 keywords, each separated by a comma. Punctuation should not be used in this field.
  • The description should be a one to three sentence statement describing the page. Keywords should also be repeated in the description. Keep in mind this description is the first thing a site visitor sees when the link to your webpage appears in a search engine.

One of the techniques that we use to help improve your ranking in the search engine is called Keyword Relevancy. Keyword relevancy means that the keywords used on a particular webpage are relevant to the content of the page.

  • Implement Keyword Relevancy by making sure your keywords also appear in the body of text on the webpage.
